Congressman Issa Announces New Subpoenas for Holder, and 100 Fast and Furious Guns Show up in El Paso

Last week, Attorney General Eric Holder tried to stall the momentum building behind the Fast and Furious investigation by submitting a letter to Senate and Congressional investigators in which he continued to plead ignorance, and in which he didhis best to undercut the progress of the investigation to this point.

In the letter, Holder actually had the gall to re-affirm his feigned ignorance of Fast and Furious:  [I have] no recollection of knowing about Fast and Furious or of hearing its name prior to the public controversy about it. (In other words, Holders holding to the timeline he provided to the House Oversight Committee on May 3

, when he claimed hed only learned of Fast and Furious over the last &8220;few weeks.&8221;)

However, as I wrote last week for Big Government,documents have been released that show Holder has been receiving briefings on Fast and Furious since July 2010 (and a recently uncoveredATF slideshow makes it feasible that he was briefed as early as March 2010).

Anyway, the good news is that Congressman Darrell Issa (R-CA) isnt deviating from his pursuit of justice. Therefore, instead of dropping or slowing the Fast and Furious investigation (in light of Holders letter), Issa appeared on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace on October 9

and announced that newsubpoenas will soon be headed Holders way.

This news was made worse for Holder by the weekend revelation that 40 Fast and Furious weapons were found in the arsenal of a single cartel member Jose Antonio Torres Marrufo and that there is hard proof that approximately100 Fast and Furious weapons were moved to El Paso, TX (after being purchased in Phoenix) for distribution purposes.

(In addition to assault rifles, these weapons included an anti-aircraft machine gun, a sniper rifle and a grenade launcher.)

Isn&8217;t comforting to know our taxpayer dollars may have been used to buy an anti-aircraft gun for the cartel?

Folks, this is a mess beyond the scope of anything weve seen in decades. And we cant trust Holder to get to the bottom of it: As the New York Post put it, Holder lied to the American people &8212; under oath, before Congress &8212; and thus is unfit to investigate allegations of criminal negligence in the Justice Department.

Taking all these things in their totality, issuing the new subpoenas is a great idea, because those come on the heels of Holders refusal to admit he wasnt honest in Congressional testimony on May 3

. Now, when hes under oath with all the evidence thats come out in the last three weeks, his story will have to change or hell join Bill Clinton as one of the great obstructionists of our time.

– A subpoena is ridiculous. What Holder needs is an indictment and an arrest warrant. The charge: accessory to MASS MURDER.

The brat is in a bind if his legal beagle, bolder holder, goes under the bus. Who will be left to protect the teleprompter toddler from all those big bad American voters? If the full story ever reaches the light of day, it will affect the FBI, ATF, DEA, ICE, homeless insecurity, stateless department, and the inmous DOJ. This will make Watergate seem like a picnic. People have died on both sides of the border as a result of this SNAFU. Quite a few folks need to do some hard time in a maximum security prison, IMHO.

His "deer-in-the-headlights" performance when asked if there was a legal precedent for trying GTMO detainees in our courts should have told us everything we need to know about Eric and his staffers.

How could anyone with a shred of competence have shown up at a hearing on GTMO and those proposed trials without knowing if there was a precedent in our history for such things?

His staffing was abysmal and his ilure to insist on being fully-briefed (assuming he surrounded himself with a competent staff, an assumption the cts tend discredit) displays the kind of arrogance we should expect from someone who has coasted to the top based on ctors other than professional competence. He&39;s obviously spent his career advancing without having been challenged on his professional knowledge or his management ability. My guess is that he didn&39;t expect to be held to account in those hearings and could coast through just as he had throughout his career.

– Gregory, AFAIK, the guns were distributed through normal commercial channels. They are the same gun that you or I might walk into a dealer to purchase.

One of the points missed in most of the articles I seen, is that these were civilian-configuration firearms (when such a distinction is applicable). In the case of the guns which are autoloaders, they are all semi-automatic, not machine guns.

Now that you mention it, though, the Gun Walker strategy does seem to dovetail with the regimes apparent desire to foment further chaos WRT the Wall Street Loiter. He wants an excuse to expand his authority, and if it takes some cold American bodies to get it, well hey, you can make an omelet without breaking some eggs.

2009-2010 (Beginning of Fast and Furious) ATF officers were ordered to allow assault-style weapons to be sold to straw purchasers.

Anyone trying to pin anything relating to Fast and Furious on the Bush administration needs to be made aware of the above time line. The original intent behind Gunwalker was to eTrace weapons that ended up in crimes. Knowingly allowing straw purchasers to BUY weapons did not occur until some time in 2009.

Look for the current administration to try and shift blame to the previous administration even though the previous administration had NOTHING to do with allowing straw purchasers to buy weapons and ship them to criminals. The more people that know about this time line the more foolish O-Blame-o and company will look.

That was how they kept track of the weapons.

So the Obama Administration by design&8212;assisted Mexican Narco-terrorist gangs in committing robberies, assaults, and murders&8211;so they could trace the weapons back to the US. That is felony stupid behavior.

There was another program run out of Texas (?) by the Dept of State alleged to have supplied machine guns, etc, to one of the Cartels. ATFE would not have been involved with that one.

– This is inaccurate. The ATFE has declared all such firearms, the parts kits, and the individual parts to be seperate "machine guns", each piece and combination to be registered and taxed as "machine guns".

For some reason, the firearms this would work in and the kits seem to have vanished from the market.
